Patrik Schick struck 14 minutes from time to complete a Bayer Leverkusen comeback and a 2-1 win over Freiburg at the BayArena, keeping Carlos Martinez's side firmly in the Champions League places.
The visitors had threatened an upset when Junior Scherhant put them ahead on 14 minutes from Lucas Treu's assist. Igan Maza — the game's outstanding performer — levelled five minutes later, and after a tight second half it was Maza who turned provider, teeing up Schick for the decisive goal.
Statement win
Leverkusen deservedly edged a tactical contest: an xG of 1.63 to Freiburg's 0.86, five shots on target to two, and three big chances to one. The win extends their unbeaten start to six league matches.
Victory lifts Leverkusen to fourth on 13 points, level with third-placed Freiburg, whose own five-match winning run in the league comes to an end at the first hurdle.
