Brighton produced the performance of the Premier League weekend, tearing Crystal Palace apart in a 5-0 rout at the Amex Stadium that was effectively decided inside the first 10 minutes.
An own goal from Palace defender Jacob Canvot put the Seagulls ahead on four minutes, Danny Gomez added a second three minutes later, and Yasin Ayari made it 3-0 with barely a quarter of the game's opening 10 minutes played. Christos Kostoulas added a fourth just after the restart before substitute Jack Hinshelwood completed the scoring 16 minutes from time.
Total control
Fabian Hurzeler's side were utterly dominant: 17 shots to Palace's five, nine on target, an xG of 1.98 against 0.75, and 57% of the ball. Palace, beaten 1-0 in this fixture last season, offered almost nothing in reply and remain 14th on seven points.
The win lifts Brighton to third on 14 points, level with the sides chasing Arsenal at the summit, and extends their unbeaten start to the league campaign to five matches without defeat.
