SV Werder Bremen secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over FC Augsburg in a five-goal encounter at the Weserstadion on Saturday. Then, just five minutes later, Ducksch grabbed his second of the game, converting from close range after a scramble in the Augsburg box.

Augsburg pulled one back through Mërgim Berisha, the Kosovan international heading home a corner on 68 minutes. This set up a grandstand finish, with both sides pushing for a winner. Werder’s Anthony Jung came close with a header, while Augsburg’s Arne Maier saw a long-range effort tipped over by the excellent Jiří Pavlenka in the Werder goal.

In the Bundesliga table race, this win keeps Werder Bremen in touch with the top half of the table. Their ability to score goals—this was their third game in a row with three or more—will be pleasing for Ole Werner, the Werder coach. However, their defensive vulnerabilities will be a concern, with Augsburg creating numerous chances throughout the 90 minutes.

For Augsburg, despite the loss, they will take heart from their attacking display. Tietz and Berisha both looked dangerous, and the side’s direct approach caused Werder numerous problems. Maaßen will be encouraged by his side’s performance, even if they ultimately came up short.
