Daniel Heuer Fernandes also made a couple of important saves in the HSV goal, ensuring his side held on for the win.

In the Bundesliga standings, this result sees Hamburger SV maintain their push towards the upper echelons of the table. Walter will be pleased with his side’s character and resilience, particularly in the second half when they had to dig deep. The performance of Glatzel, both in front of goal and in his creative role, will be particularly encouraging.

For Koln, it’s a case of what might have been. They created enough chances to have won the game, particularly in the final 20 minutes. Baumgart will be frustrated that his side couldn’t find the clinical edge when it mattered. The performance of Diehl, who looks an exciting prospect, will be one of the few positives to take from the game.
