Allsvenskan is the top division of Swedish men's football, founded in 1924 and played every year since, an unbroken run that continued through the Second World War thanks to Swedish neutrality and reached its 100th season in 2025. Sixteen clubs take part, and like its Nordic neighbours the league follows the calendar year, beginning at the end of March or start of April and finishing in November. Every team plays the other 15 home and away for a 30-match season. The club top of the table is Swedish champion and takes a Champions League qualifying place, the next finishers enter the Conference League qualifying rounds, the bottom two are relegated directly to the second-tier Superettan, and the side finishing 14th plays a relegation play-off against Superettan opposition. Malmo FF are the record champions with 27 Allsvenskan titles, ahead of a chasing group that includes IFK Goteborg, AIK, IFK Norrkoping, Djurgarden and Hammarby. The Stockholm derbies between AIK, Djurgarden and Hammarby are the fiercest fixtures in the country, played in front of some of the largest and most vocal crowds in Scandinavian football.
