The Eredivisie is the top flight of Dutch football, launched in 1956 as the country's first fully professional league. Eighteen clubs contest a 34-match home-and-away season running from August to May, making it one of the most compact top divisions in Europe. The competition is best known for its attacking, youth-driven style of football and its long history of producing players who go on to star at Europe's biggest clubs. Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord have traditionally dominated the title race, with Ajax the outstanding force in the league's history, having won the championship 36 times. The bottom of the table carries relegation and promotion play-off places connecting the Eredivisie with the second-tier Eerste Divisie, while the leading clubs qualify for the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League depending on where they finish. PSV Eindhoven enter the new season as reigning champions after winning the 2025/26 title, their 27th league crown. Ayase Ueda topped the scoring charts in 2025/26 with 25 goals.
