Colombia
About the League
The Clausura, or Finalizacion, is the second of Colombia's two annual championships in the 20-club Categoria Primera A, founded in 1948. Atletico Nacional are the record champions with 18 titles, and Junior won the 2025 Finalizacion.
Primera A - Clausura is the second championship of the Colombian league season, the tournament also known as the Finalizacion. Categoria Primera A was founded in 1948 and is organised by DIMAYOR with 20 clubs, and unlike most leagues it crowns two champions a year: the Apertura in the first half of the calendar and the Clausura in the second. Each is a self-contained competition with its own title, its own trophy and its own consequences for continental qualification, so a Colombian season produces two sets of celebrations rather than one. The Clausura opens with an all-play-all group phase in which every club meets each of the others, and the leading eight then advance to the knockout stage. That stage is played as two quadrangular groups of four, home and away, with the winner of each group reaching a two-legged final that decides the champion. Relegation is not settled by a single tournament: clubs drop to Primera B on a points average taken across three years of Apertura and Clausura results combined, which keeps the bottom of the aggregate table alive all season long. Atletico Nacional are the record champions with 18 league titles, followed by Millonarios, America de Cali, Deportivo Cali, Junior, Independiente Santa Fe and Independiente Medellin, the clubs that between them account for most of Colombian football's history. Junior lifted the 2025 Finalizacion title, an 11th Colombian championship for the Barranquilla side.
