City lock leadership group after a record-window reset

Manchester City have published the leadership map that will sit over every selection. Enzo Maresca officially named four captains: Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland, Marc Guehi and Gianluigi Donnarumma. The announcement was carried by Fabrizio Romano.

The same press round produced Maresca’s first extended comments on Enzo Fernández after the midfielder left Chelsea. “We’ve signed a winner,” Maresca said. “Enzo has a winning mentality, he knows how to win — World Cup, Club World Cup. And the main thing is that he’s a winner.” He added that several City players had asked in the last four or five days whether Fernández was coming.

Xabi Alonso, speaking from the Chelsea side of the deal, said the clubs take decisions together. “We knew, ultimately, the goal is to have the best for the team and squad. We want to build a good spirit and team.” Alonso separately said he was content after a Lamine Camara deal fell away, citing squad depth and certainty about who is in the building.

City’s next Premier League assignment is Sunday against Coventry, part of a weekend slate that also includes Friday’s Ipswich Town vs Liverpool. The captaincy list matters because it confirms who the club is putting in front of the group after a summer that moved Donnarumma and Guehi into the first-team leadership circle alongside Dias and Haaland.

Maresca did not name a starting XI. Broadcast rights for City’s matches vary by market, so check your local rights holder for Manchester City live coverage.

The takeaway is simple: City’s on-pitch hierarchy is now public, Fernández is inside that group as a signed winner in the manager’s words, and Chelsea have closed the chapter in public remarks. That is the squad frame heading into the next round of Premier League fixtures.
