Diogo Leite landed in Rome on Sunday to sign for Lazio after leaving Union Berlin as a free agent.

Fabrizio Romano reported that the Portuguese centre-back will put pen to paper on a contract until June 2029, with an option that can extend the deal to 2030. There is no transfer fee. Leite's Union Berlin contract expired, which is why Lazio could complete the move once medicals and paperwork were lined up in the capital.

The same reporting trail that carried the original Here we go on 5 September put the length at three years plus the extra option year. Sunday's update was the arrival itself: Leite on the ground in Rome to formalise the registration. Italian coverage had already framed him as the centre-back covering the vacancy left in Lazio's defensive group.

What is confirmed, and what is not

The reporting confirms the essentials: a free transfer, a contract with Lazio to 2029 plus an option, and Leite in Rome to sign. A debut date, a starting place and the opponent for his first minutes have not been confirmed.

Leite is a left-footed centre-back who came through Porto before the Union Berlin years. Those Bundesliga seasons are the body of work Lazio are buying. He will count as a Lazio player once the club and league confirm the paperwork and the official squad list updates.

Where to watch

Lazio's Serie A matches are shown by the licensed rightsholder in each territory. No new broadcast details were announced with the signing, so check official listings before kick-off.

When Lazio next take the field, watch the centre-back names on the team sheet. Leite is the new addition to that group.
