Arsenal have completed the signing of England international defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa in a deal worth an initial £51 million, with potential add-ons taking the total package to approximately £55 million.
The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract in north London, which includes an option for an additional 12 months. Konsa has been assigned the number 15 shirt and was formally unveiled following the completion of his medical.
Defensive Reinforcements at the Emirates
Arsenal moved swiftly to secure Konsa's signature to reinforce their defensive depth after long-term injury layoffs for key defenders William Saliba and Jurriën Timber left Mikel Arteta's backline depleted heading into the new Premier League campaign.
Konsa's proven ability to perform at the highest level across multiple positions—excelling as both a central defender and a commanding right-back—made him Arsenal's primary target to fortify the back four.
Ezri is a defender of high quality, whose athleticism, composure and tactical intelligence have established him as one of the Premier League's most consistent performers. Being comfortable in both central defence and at right-back, Ezri will bring valuable versatility to our squad.— Andrea Berta, Arsenal Sporting Director
Konsa: 'Hungry to Keep Winning'
Speaking after finalising his move to Emirates Stadium, Konsa expressed his excitement and determination to compete for the biggest trophies in English and European football.
It’s a privilege to be here and I can’t wait to get started. I want to keep winning, I’m hungry to win and that’s what I’m here for. It’s a proud moment for me and my family to play for one of the best teams in the world. A lot of emotions have gone through my head, but I think it will really kick in on the first match-day.— Ezri Konsa, Arsenal Defender
Prior to the deal being announced, manager Mikel Arteta emphasized the club's proactive strategy in addressing key squad needs during the summer window.
We are really active in the market and the ambition is to improve the squad. We have a specific need in the back line with the long-term issue with Willy [Saliba]. When we are ready, we will announce something.— Mikel Arteta, Arsenal Manager
Konsa will immediately integrate into Arsenal's first-team training setup ahead of their upcoming Premier League fixtures.
