Real Madrid have lost for the first time under Jose Mourinho, and the manager did not hide his anger. Real Betis 1-0 Real Madrid is the result that snapped a perfect La Liga start and sent Saturday's Spanish fixtures into a different gear.

Troy Parrott scored the only goal in the 81st minute. Madrid thought they had an equaliser through Carlos Espi, only for the strike to be ruled out for offside in the build-up. Kylian Mbappe then had a stoppage-time penalty to rescue a point and missed it. That sequence is the hard fact of the night: Betis won at home, Madrid dropped their first league points of 2026-27, and Mourinho left the pitch questioning the officiating as much as the scoreline.

Speaking after the match, Mourinho said there was a clear yellow card on Fede Valverde for a stamp on the foot and that Betis players exaggerated every foul so much that you would think they need an ambulance from their reactions. He added that his own yellow card came because he jumped while a Betis player was pretending to be dead, and that Arda Guler was booked while Betis collected none in the first half.

Mourinho also said the game was ALL Real Madrid, that his side created many chances, and that a draw would have been a disappointment. “I genuinely don't know why we lost. We played so well. Very well. The players' attitude was fantastic, and we did everything to win,” he said.

The defeat leaves Madrid on nine points from four matches, level with Barcelona and Betis at the top of the early table. Saturday's fixtures in Spain include Athletic Club vs Atletico Madrid, Rayo Vallecano vs Racing Santander and Villarreal vs Deportivo de A Coruna. The same thread runs through all of them: Pellegrini's Betis have three wins from four, and Mourinho's second spell already has its first public inquest.

Parrott, signed from AZ Alkmaar in the summer, supplied the finish. Madrid's late pressure produced the disallowed goal and the missed penalty, not a leveller. The rest of the La Liga weekend now has a clear context: the leaders have been beaten, the manager has spoken, and the next Spanish matches will be watched against that backdrop.
