Isak Brace Gives Iraola First Liverpool Win at Ipswich

Alexander Isak needed just nine minutes to hand Andoni Iraola his first Premier League win as Liverpool manager. The Sweden striker’s quickfire double sank Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road on Friday night, ending a stuttering start for the Reds.

Cody Gakpo provided both assists. First, a precise pass set Isak free to fire past Kjell Scherpen in the sixth minute. Three minutes later Isak twisted past a defender and slotted home after another Gakpo delivery. The early goals settled any nerves after two draws to open the campaign.

We were waiting for the first win, and we were talking about starting the game good which we haven’t done recently. And we did that with two goals.— Alexander Isak, Liverpool striker, post-match interview (Sky Sports / club reaction)

Bradley Barcola made his debut off the bench in the second half as Liverpool comfortably controlled the contest. Iraola’s side climb the table with five points from three matches while Ipswich remain near the bottom.

The win gives Iraola breathing space after draws against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. Liverpool now turn attention to Champions League action midweek with renewed confidence after a clinical away performance.
