Getafe 1-0 Málaga

Getafe secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Málaga at the Coliseo Alfonso Pérez, with Borja Mayoral's first-half strike proving to be the decisive moment. The result moves José Bordalás' side up to fifth in the La Liga table, while Málaga remain in the lower reaches.

The victory extends Getafe's unbeaten home record to four matches in all competitions this season. For Málaga, the defeat will be a disappointment, particularly given their bright start to the campaign following promotion from the Segunda División.

The only goal of the game came in the 28th minute. Mayoral broke the deadlock with a clinical finish from the edge of the area. The striker received the ball from Mason Greenwood on the right flank, cut inside onto his left foot, and unleashed a powerful shot that gave Málaga goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo no chance.

Málaga almost equalized immediately, with Lorenzo González going close with a header from a corner that David Soria did well to tip over the crossbar. However, Getafe's defence stood firm for the remainder of the match, with Mauro Arambarri andLuis Milla particularly impressive in midfield.

The second half saw few clear-cut chances, with both sides struggling to create meaningful opportunities. Getafe almost doubled their lead in the 72nd minute when Jaime Mata's deflected effort came back off the post, but Málaga were unable to capitalize on their stroke of luck.

The victory sees Getafe move to 10 points from their opening five matches, their best start to a La Liga season since 2019-20. For Málaga, the defeat leaves them in 17th place, just one point above the relegation zone.

Getafe manager Bordalás will be particularly pleased with his side's defensive solidity. The Madrid-based side have now conceded just two goals in their five league matches this season, the best defensive record in the division.
