Real Madrid pushed hard for an equalizer in the closing stages, with Courtois coming up for a corner in stoppage time. However, Atlético's defence held firm, with Jan Oblak making several crucial saves to preserve his side's lead.

The victory sees Atlético move to the summit of the La Liga table with 13 points from five matches. For Real Madrid, the defeat will be a reality check, with Carlo Ancelotti's side now sitting in third place, two points behind their city rivals.
