Wilfried Singo: Galatasaray set October return as thigh injury timeline slips again

Galatasaray have set a mid-October return target for defender Wilfried Singo after the Ivorian suffered a setback in his recovery from a thigh injury, with the club ruling out the worst-case scenarios that had circulated in recent weeks.

What Galatasaray have confirmed

Galatasaray issued an official update confirming that Singo has suffered a grade 3C muscle injury with bleeding in the upper posterior muscle group of his right thigh. Club president Dursun Özbek, speaking at a sponsorship event, moved to calm fears about the defender's long-term condition. "Singo's injury is not serious," he said. "It is a situation caused by the impact he received in training. He will be with us as soon as possible."

The statement also confirmed there is no torn tendon and no chronic injury, countering earlier rumours of an Achilles rupture that had spread on social media in recent weeks.

A frustrating season so far

Singo has been sidelined since 26 August and has missed Galatasaray's last three Super Lig matches. He had been closing in on a return — featuring off the bench against Erzurumspor and Göztepe before the setback — but aggravated the problem in training, delaying his comeback once more.

In total, the 25-year-old has managed only 41 minutes across two of Galatasaray's seven official matches this season, a meagre return for a player who was a regular starter before the injury and is expected to resume that role once fully up to speed.

The new timeline

The revised plan sees Singo missing the Kasimpasa fixture and the Champions League meeting with Barcelona immediately after the international break, with a return targeted for the away trip to Gençlerbirliği in the Super Lig's eighth round on 17 October.

Galatasaray entered the international break on the back of a heavy 4-0 defeat to Trabzonspor, and the injury list has been a persistent headache for the technical staff. Getting Singo — a physically dominant defender — back into the squad would be a significant boost for a side looking to steady its domestic campaign.

Given the accumulation of problems in this recovery, Galatasaray's medical team will manage his load carefully. The club have been clear that they will not rush him, even with a target date now on the board.
