Everton left Hill Dickinson Stadium with a 2-2 Premier League draw and the better chance profile. David Moyes' side posted 0.92 expected goals to Manchester United's 0.47, took 15 shots to 14, and put 13 of those attempts inside the box. United still left with a point after Bryan Mbeumo scored immediately after half-time and Benjamin Sesko answered late.

Key Numbers

The shot map was not even. Everton recorded 13 shots inside the box and only two from outside it. United flipped that split: six inside, eight outside. xG on target told a different story from raw xG. United's xGOT was 0.63 against Everton's 0.31, which is why a lower-volume chance set still produced two goals.

Possession sat 45-55 for United. Pass accuracy was almost identical (86% on 381 Everton passes, 87% on 485 United passes). Final-third accuracy favoured United at 76% (76/100) against Everton's 71% (95/133). United completed more passes and still created less location quality.

Defensive numbers backed Everton's territorial push. They won 46 duels to 34, made 13 interceptions to eight, and completed 8 of 15 tackles. United cleared 25 balls to Everton's 16. Both sides took one big chance. Both collected three yellow cards.

Tactical Reading

Both teams started in a 4-2-3-1. The first half was a 0-0 with almost identical xG (0.34-0.33). Everton already had the only first-half big chance. United hit the woodwork once and lived on shots from range.

The game changed in the first minute of the second half. Kobbie Mainoo found Bryan Mbeumo and United led. Everton then brought on Jack Grealish for Brennan Johnson (66) and Hayden Hackney for Merlin Rohl (75). Hackney assisted Tyrique George in the 83rd minute. Michael Carrick had already introduced Sesko and Patrick Dorgu on 70. Sesko finished Luke Shaw's 88th-minute service to restore the away lead on the scoreboard even as the xG ledger stayed with the home side.

United's extra possession did not translate into box occupation. Touches in the opposition box finished 27-24 for Everton. Cross accuracy was poor on both sides (4/19 Everton, 4/11 United). The visitors' threat arrived in two high-value moments rather than a sustained wave.

Standout Performers

Mbeumo's 46th-minute finish and Sesko's 88th-minute header (United's only headed goal) decided the away points. Mainoo and Shaw supplied the assists. For Everton, George scored and Hackney created it within eight minutes of coming on. Jordan Pickford faced 0.63 xGOT and made one save; Senne Lammens faced 0.31 xGOT and made four. Goals-prevented figures finished negative for both keepers (-1.37 and -0.69), which matches a 2-2 from a combined 1.39 xG.

What It Means

Everton sit 8th on 5 points from three games (5 scored, 3 conceded). United are 11th on 4 points (7 scored, 6 conceded). The xG gap says Moyes' side controlled the quality of chances. Carrick's side controlled the timing of them. That is a repeatable pattern only if United keep converting low-xG, high-xGOT moments. Everton's box volume is already a usable attacking base for Round 4.
