Haaland: City still rebuilding after a fantastic window

After another Premier League win, Erling Haaland has set out his own frame for Manchester City's season: City are "still in a kind of rebuilding phase, but the transfer window has been fantastic."

Speaking via Jan Aage Fjortoft and circulated by Fabrizio Romano on Sunday morning, Haaland thanked the people who ran the window. "Well done to the club and people at the club. They brought fantastic footballers, but also great people who fit really well." In a longer cut carried by City Xtra he singled out chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak as well.

The comments landed after City beat Coventry City 1-0, Haaland scoring the only goal. Enzo Fernandez started after Nico O'Reilly had a physical issue in the warm-up. Iliman Ndiaye also debuted. Haaland, asked about the new arrivals, said Enzo "came in and did really well on the goal; he had some chances actually, he could've scored" and that Ndiaye's dribbling showed "his qualities straight away." His verdict on the pair: "There's a reason why they are bought by us, they're quality."

Rebuilding is a loaded word at a club that still expects to be hunted every week. Haaland is not describing a write-off year. He is describing a squad that has just absorbed several first-team names and is still sorting who starts. Enzo Maresca, on the same weekend, said competing sides need midfield options and that he is "very happy with the options we have."

City are winning while the new midfield and attack are still being fitted together. O'Reilly's warm-up problem remains the only fresh fitness note attached to the Coventry afternoon. No long-term diagnosis has been published in the quotes circulating Sunday.
