Everton 1-0 Ipswich: Calvert-Lewin header secures narrow Toffees victory

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's first-half header was enough to secure all three points for Everton as they edged past newly-promoted Ipswich Town 1-0 at Hill Dickinson Stadium. The victory provides much-needed relief for Sean Dyche's side, who had won just one of their opening four Premier League matches.

The decisive moment came on 34 minutes when James Tarkowski's long throw was flicked on by Amadou Onana, allowing Calvert-Lewin to rise highest and power a header past Vaclav Hladky. It was the England international's third goal of the season and first in four matches, ending a mini-drought that had concerned Toffees supporters.

Ipswich, playing in the top flight for the first time since 2002, created several good opportunities in the second half, with Conor Chaplin and Kieffer Moore both going close. However, Jordan Pickford made two excellent saves to preserve Everton's clean sheet and ensure his side moved out of the bottom three.

The result sees Everton climb to 14th in the table, while Ipswich remain 18th but can take heart from a spirited display against established Premier League opposition. Dyche will be particularly pleased with his side's defensive organisation, having kept clean sheets in three of their five matches so far this season.
