Europa League Qualification is not a standalone competition but the multi-round pathway that determines which clubs join the automatic qualifiers in the UEFA Europa League league phase each season. Played across July and August, it comprises two separate routes: the Champions Path, largely made up of domestic champions from lower-ranked associations who missed out on the Champions League, and the Main Path, open to cup winners and high-placed league finishers from stronger associations. Ties are two-legged, home and away, with scores decided on aggregate, then extra time and penalties if needed. Clubs enter at different rounds depending on their association's UEFA coefficient ranking, with seeded and unseeded draws at each stage. The rounds progress from the first qualifying round through to a play-off round, after which surviving clubs join the Europa League's 36-team league phase. Losing a tie is rarely the end of the road: clubs eliminated from Europa League qualifying, particularly in the Main Path, often drop into the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying rounds instead, keeping their European campaign alive.
