Über die Liga

Denmark's 12-club top flight, founded in 1991 and decided by a championship and relegation split after a 22-game regular season. FC Copenhagen are the record champions with 16 titles, while AGF won the 2025-26 crown, their first in 40 years.

The Superliga is the top tier of men's club football in Denmark and the country's flagship domestic competition. Founded in 1991 to replace the old 1st Division as the championship decider, it is contested by 12 clubs across a season that runs from July to May. Its format is one of the most distinctive in Europe. In the regular season every club meets the other eleven three times, a total of 22 matches, after which the table splits in two. The top six enter the Championship Round and play for the title and European qualification, while the bottom six contest the Relegation Round, with points earned before the split carried over. Each group plays a further ten fixtures, bringing every club to 32 league games, and the two lowest-placed sides in the Relegation Round are relegated to the Danish 1st Division, with the leading second-tier clubs promoted in their place. FC Copenhagen are the record champions with 16 Superliga titles, and their meetings with Brondby remain the biggest occasion in Danish football. Midtjylland, Nordsjaelland, AGF, Silkeborg, Randers and Viborg make up much of the established core, and the division has built a strong reputation as a development league that regularly supplies players to bigger European competitions. AGF took the 2025-26 championship, the Aarhus club's first Danish title in 40 years.
